Hi, I’m Bob Litan, an economist and lawyer, with over 4 decades of work experience in both fields, author or co-author of 30 books and lots of articles — mostly about economics or policy issues, some sports business and law writing for The Athletic (behind a paywall), and a sprinkling of other topics. I spent most of research career at the Brookings Institution and the Kauffman Foundation, but have also had the privilege of serving in high level posts in antitrust enforcement and budget policy in the federal government in the 1990s, and also did a stint overseeing research in the private sector for Bloomberg Government.

You’ll find short essays on a wide range of things on this site. Having passed 70, I’ve experienced a lot in my life and hope to share some products of that experience, and application of what I’ve learned to issues and concerns that likely affect you the reader. I won’t spend a lot of time on politics, largely because you can get that elsewhere, but oftentimes I can’t escape at least discussing policy, and will do so in as objective a way as I can.

To be up front, I am a political moderate, always have been, probably always will be. I try to be evidence-based or at least logical. I’m at the “give back” stage of my life now and I will feel successful if readers find just a few thoughts here they haven’t found elsewhere that will resonate with them. That happens to me almost every day by reading widely, and I’m the better for it.

So thanks for coming, and I hope you won’t be disappointed.
