Robert, thank you for this article, and for sharing the video (which I did watch) and your views. I agree Trump is unfit for another term as President. Where we differ, is I believe Joe Biden is equally unfit, albeit for different reasons, for another term as President. I don’t believe Biden is in full control of his faculties now, and this will only get worse during the next four years. I’m not really sure who holds the power behind the curtain now; certainly not VP Harris, nor do I believe that Dr. Jill Biden has the influential role that Edith Wilson did for her husband, Woodrow, more than 100 years ago. I don’t believe the country is being well-served by having unelected official(s) do most of the heavy lifting of Presidential duties. As I believe a candidate for President must demonstrate a certain level of competency, I won’t be voting for either Trump or Biden.
I believe both Trump and Biden, in different ways, have diminshed the presidency and damaged (but not ruined) the country, and will continue to do so if either of them wins the 2024 Presidential election. I do think our country will survive in either case, but it may take generations to recover from the damage done. In the future, many historians will make a good living pointing out the irrationality our politicians and the American people have exhibited in the last decade or so (not that we were exceptionally brilliant before then).
Unfortunately, I can offer no immediate solution. The Republican Party, my preferred party for most of my adult life, is broken. There are still many talented and qualified Republicans, but they hold no power or influence, or have traded their talents and qualifications to unwisely subject themselves to Trump’s whims. The current Democratic Party would be considered very fractured and disorganized by historical standards, but I can’t say they are broken like the current GOP. I cannot support any current Democrat, as their party not only tolerates, but actively works for the ability to end the lives of unborn children.
My hope, unrealistic as it may be, is that one or both parties recognize the foolishness of the path they are on and find someone else to nominate for President. I think the probability the GOP will do so is 0%, and that the probability the Democrats will do so is greater than zero but less than 1%. In the longer term, I look forward to the time when people from the center-left and center-right (many of whom would have been considered extremists twenty years ago) find enough common ground to be able to work together for the good of our country, our people, and people around the world. I hope and pray, but have my doubts, this will occur in my lifetime.
